This sample of raw agate is one of many varieties of microcrystalline quartz. Agate is often known for its brilliant banding, but can also be found as detrital clasts in a more chertlike form. This sample is a great tool for teaching geology students about the many forms of quartz, hardness, crystal habit, and fracture. Samples are approximately 1" in length and come in a labeled plastic bag.
